High Tea and elderflower scones

When I'm distressed about my professional life, I tend to retreat into the all my favourite sections of my closet - lace blouses, pastel skirts, bows, and of course anything pink. They all remind me that the dry, cubicle-ruled parts of my life aren't everything.

I was forcibly transferred to a new office this week. My old project was discontinued and it's funny how much I already miss working on it in my old office with old coworkers and we haven't even said our final good-byes yet. We started the send off with an informal cook-off party, giving me an excuse to do the other thing that keeps my mind off the world: baking. I made elderflower orange scones, and served them with fresh blueberries, vegan "clotted cream" and strawberry jam.

Dress to Impress

Contrary to what those who know me would think, sometimes I love being wrong. I often assume clothing outside my familiar styles will be a disaster once I put it on. I saw this Grasby Gardens dress at Anthropologie and thought the colour combinations and the cut were so unlike anything else I owned. I knew it would either be a total hit or a complete miss and something about this cut to me suggested disaster. Of course I put it on and fell in love. I turned away from the initial price, but to my delight the dress received a quick sale cut. I loved it too much to hope and wait for another quick second cut, so I grabbed it. Anthro must be on my side lately because despite my lack of willpower, the dress got the second cut and I got a tidy price adjustment. What enablers to my overflowing closet they are...

Dress to Impress;
Dress: Anthropologie Grasby Gardens Dress
Necklace: Juicy Couture charm necklace
Legwear: Ruffian for Anthropologie floral lace tights
Shoes: Chie Mihara Alegra platforms
Bag: Bow clutch from a San Francisco boutique

I wore this outfit to watch Boyfriend and his band perform. He was so excited about the night, I really wanted to dress up. His jaw dropped at the outfit so I guess that goal was a success!

Treasure Island

I forgot how quickly I burn through fiction books. The university experience really derailed much of my interest in them and so I've had my nose firmly buried in history, political theory, and academic journal entries for the last six years. I finally decided to pull up with my new clothbound classics collection and I finished my first selection in a few hours. I'm on to "Treasure Island" now, which unlike "Dorian," I have never read. I love it! Even knowing the classic plot and characters, it's still fun to read and makes me long for tropical waters and sandy beaches. Ah, if only summer weren't ending...

Treasure Island;
Hair:
Cheap, drugstore hairband
Top: Anthropologie Picture Frame Blouse in green
Necklace: Juicy Couture charm necklace
Belt: Anthropologie High Prairie Belt
Skirt: Anthropologie Penciled Abronia Skirt
Legwear: Hue tights in brown
Shoes: New Look kitten heel brogues (super old)
Bag: Pink tote (gift from my mum)

This outfit is a quick, go-to work look. When I first tried on both the skirt and top, I tried them on like this and fell in love. I waited for the blouse to go on sale, but this skirt had to come home with me as soon as possible. I love pencil skirts, but too often they only come in neutral colours. This one is so beautiful, and while better suited to spring, I feel any time of year is right for flowers.
